Stone Bath Hooks Inspired by Viva Terra

in Decor, DIY

I recently posted how I love rocks, sticks, and trees in decorating.  Here is an idea for incorporating rocks into your decor for a natural look.

These rock towel hooks are from Viva Terra.  I really love the look of these hooks and decided to try and make my own version.  My parents are avid “rock hounds” and have an extensive supply of interesting polished rocks available, so I was able to find some very pretty and interesting rocks for my project.  I didn’t really want to do any cutting, so I went to Lowes and picked up some small wood pieces that are meant as accent pieces for moulding.  Then I found some small metal cabinet knobs for my hook base.  My husband was kind enough to drill some holes for the hardware for me .

I decided that since my rocks were so colorful and shiny, I didn’t really want to leave the wood natural, so I stained it a medium brown and put a sealer on it.

I wanted the metal hooks to be a richer color as well, so I spray painted them in an oiled bronze color.

After that, all I needed to do was epoxy the rocks on to the cabinet pulls and screw them into the wood blocks.  Done!

Now we can stop throwing towels around the bathroom. (please?)

P.S.  If you want some pretty polished rocks for this project, I suggest you contact my friends over at Irv’s Rock and Jewelry.  They can fix you up with anything rock related, and have great jewelry as well. Also on Facebook.
